I’ve been fascinated by the legends of King Arthur since I was very young, and for a long time I’ve been equally fascinated by the character of Sir Kay. He is the stroppy one who always gets things wrong. He is a knight of the Round Table, and as King Arthur’s seneschal he has a high position, almost the king’s deputy, and yet looked at another way, he is no more than an upper servant. So he’s inside and outside at the same time, and that fires up my imagination to tell stories about him.

Sir Kay, High Seneschal of Britain, cuts an aloof if lonely figure; his acerbic tongue, formal manner and pedantic nature ensure he will never be popular at court, while the king’s favour nurtures only jealousy and mistrust among his fellow knights.

Raised as King Arthur’s brother and forever in his shadow, Kay’s wisdom and courage are as frequently overlooked as is his sacrifice, even by the King himself.

This is Kay’s story.
